BLESS: Covenant Dance Outreach Classes

Update: Our next session of classes will be from 9 April – 28 May 2015, 8pm, held at YMCA Basement Studio 1. For more info, please email cefcdance@gmail.com.

In August 2014, CEFC Dance started our first outreach B.L.E.S.S project to share the love of dance to our pre-believing friends. Held from 7 August to 18 September, our first outreach initiative was started to introduce our friends to members of our dance ministry in a relaxed and fun environment.

Dancers at the first run of BLESS! All smiley faces at the last lesson on 18 Sep 2014

We planned for six Jazz & Tone sessions conducted by our instructor Elaine. Although sign ups were slow in the beginning, by faith we persevered on and on the first lesson, we had 20 friends and six members packed into the dance studio. Participants were introduced to simple jazz steps and stretch techniques. Everyone started out a little tense at first but soon warmed up and began enjoying themselves.

It is our hope that through these outreach class, we can reach out to pre-believers and introduce them to the ALPHA course (a larger outreach project by CEFC), which provides pre-believers a welcoming and friendly environment to learn more about the Christian faith.

As a dance ministry, we were greatly encouraged by this verse as we set out in faith on this new mission:

Isaiah 61: 1-2

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.

Before we knew it, six weeks had passed and we completed our very first outreach project! With the positive feedback received from our class participants, we thank God we were able to conduct another run of the Jazz & Tone class from October to November 2014.

We were happy to get to know more friends and are glad to BLESS more!

Time flies and now we are ready to begin a fresh season of Jazz & Tone for 2015!

Quickly gather friends who you know would love a good workout in great company and let’s BLESS them together! Spaces are limited so write in to us soon.

Yay we completed two runs of the BLESS project! This is us at the last class of second run on 13 Nov 2014.

Camp Covenant 2014

Camp Covenant 2014This year’s theme for church camp was Shine Righteously, a posture that our main speaker, Senior Pastor Christopher Chia of Adam Road Presbyterian Church, showed how we can live out in practice – in the communion with God and with each other, as well as in the use of our sexuality and money. It was sobering teaching that culminated in the giving up of our idols on the final day, expressed symbolically in the discarding of notepaper on which we wrote their names.

Holiness, being set apart for the Lord, was the point.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Rom 12:1-2)

Camp Covenant 2014

In the same spirit, we joined in the worship by dancing with flags. Why flags?

In common usage, a flag can mean several things – a state symbol, a way of signalling, or a king’s standard and banner. As a prophetic act, we wave these flags to proclaim the government of Jesus in our lives, to lift up a standard against the enemy and to gesture that His banner over us is love. In the natural, I can see how such acts can seem unnecessary, even foolish. But as we flagged with our hearts burning on those days, I know the Spirit was very near.

Behind the Scenes – Missions Week 2014

We celebrate God’s work in transforming lives everywhere. We hope to encourage you that more can be done in reaching out to our pre-believing friends, and it is a blessing to be able to share the good news far and wide.

This dance was presented on 6 and 13 July 2014 at Missions Sunday during worship services at BPJ and WDL Centres.

Celebration of Life!

Sunday offertory dance by CEFC Dance Ministry at both centres at Woodlands and Bukit Panjang on 9 February 2014.

God promises ‘life abundance’ when we hold close to Him. In the rhythm of life, we experience different seasons, joy, pain and challenges… But God’s goodness, grace and mercy covers each one of us in every situation.
Chinese new year is about reunion. Let us celebrate our communion with God and with one another, united in LOVE.

Song of Moses – Exodus 15

The church theme for 2013 was ‘Redeemed For His Glory’, digging deep into Exodus to anchor the sermons.

This is a dance reflecting the triumph and rejoicing experienced by the Israelites after God delivered them from generations bonded under Pharoah’s harsh slavery. God through Moses parted the Red Sea and provided a way for His people. God is also a very present and real Mighty Deliverer for anyone who seeks him today.

Exodus 15:1-2:

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying,

“I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his ridera he has thrown into the sea.
2The LORD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him. (ESV)

Exodus 15:20

Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. And Miriam sang to them:

“Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.” (ESV)

Clean slate

During class one evening, Elaine, our engaged dance instructor, led us in a prophetic painting exercise, using only three colours, our fingers and blindfolded. The subject: How God sees us.

Without our primary sense guiding us, many of us slowly found an inner leading to effect the strokes, as we prayed for us to hear from the Lord Himself with regards to this subject.

When all was unveiled, and we shared what we saw about the artist behind each piece based on the drawings, we were astounded about the clarity with which character and direction were revealed. We were astounded by our own pieces, to be sure. Or perhaps a better word would be: affirmed. Affirmed that He has only thoughts of peace toward us, thoughts to give us a future filled with hope, and that we could hear this for ourselves.

Realising unseen worlds.

He know the plans He has for me. He knows me. One day, the veil shall be completely removed and I shall see my Lord fully, as I am now seen by Him. Hallelujah!

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. -1 Cor 13:12
